Hôtel du Square d'Anvers

I only stayed one night, so I barely spent time in the room, but the bed was comfortable and the pillows were lovely and fluffy. The staff were so kind and accommodating, and it’s close to the Basilique du Sacr and the Metro, which made getting around Paris easy. The room could use fresh paint, some updating, and a bigger shower. Still, being able to watch the Eiffel Tower sparkle in the distance made it my best stay in Paris, especially on my budget. I’d definitely come back!

The staff were nice, but this hotel is dark, dirty, worn out, and clearly neglected. The furniture is broken, as we found when we tried to locate a working plug. A mouse came out of the bathroom to inspect our leftovers, a complimentary chef consultation we hadn’t asked for. I’ve stayed at much nicer places for much less, including the place we went to instead.

The location was decent and the staff were fairly friendly. Everything else was awful. The hotel was filthy, the lift didn’t work, and the stairs had dirt and sand all over the carpet. The room smelled damp as soon as we walked in. The bathroom was the worst part: broken fixtures, mold, and strangers’ hair everywhere. There was hair on the beds and floor, and the bedding was stained. I booked through Agoda without checking other sites first. The platform only showed good reviews, but the Google Maps comments make it clear the hotel doesn’t match its description. It was the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in, and every bad review seemed true. I checked in late, exhausted and very disappointed, and had a horrible night. We could hear every little sound from neighboring rooms, including people peeing through the walls and doing other things. Our windows faced a courtyard where kitchen vents started up early, filling the room with cooking smells. Two nightmare nights cost €340.

The room was filthy, with dirty sheets, nasty brown towels, no window or view, and a bathroom that smelled like sewage. There was no air conditioning, just an old fan that barely moved any air. The hotel didn’t match what was advertised at all, so we couldn’t stay and found a much better place in the Montmarte area. A friend had booked it for us. The man at reception gave her a hard time about the refund, though he eventually returned the money. This was an awful experience. Think twice before booking, unless you’re on an extremely tight budget. I wouldn’t stay again.
