l'Echiquier Opéra Hotel Paris - MGallery Collection

The hotel feels tucked into local life and away from mass tourism, while still being right in the heart of Paris. The intimate atmosphere has a charm that modern hotel layouts don't give you. I hope it doesn't get overrun by noisy tourism. The tasteful decor nods to the 1920s without going too far, and we loved the original old elevator, though there is a newer one too. We had a beautiful evening at Le 38, the bar, with a live singer on Valentins Day. The friendly reception staff and the whole breakfast experience made it easy to linger: the decor, the busy and welcoming staff, and the offerings all gave it a bistro feel. It all fits together nicely. It feels like an address you'd keep to yourself, or recommend only to friends with good taste.

Laura deserves special thanks for helping me sort out a luggage issue. Everyone at the front desk gave excellent service, and the room was comfortable in a good location. The free afternoon tea was a nice touch. Dining was quiet on the nights I stayed, but the food was surprisingly good. Maybe the restaurant could use more promotion. I'd recommend this hotel.

We stayed three nights at L’Échiquier with my mom, and we'd both absolutely come back. The location is excellent, with everything within walking distance on a quiet side street. Amilee at the front desk was incredibly kind, helpful, informative, and went above and beyond. The hotel offers afternoon tea, which was a nice surprise. It's modern and updated but still has Paris charm. Our rooms were clean and secure, and although small, they were more spacious than we'd expected. We loved the Clarins products. My only small complaint was that the lavatory ventilation seemed old and the aircon and heat were a bit lacking.

The breakfast was plentiful and very good, and we got to know the staff over our almost two-week stay. Philippe and Ali learned our usual drinks and always had a kind word for us. We missed tea time, but had drinks and dinner at the restaurant a couple of times. I loved the gorgeous restaurant and the little details, like the person who refilled our fridge with water each day, someone else keeping the coffee machine stocked for our morning coffees, and the robes and slippers in the closet. We arrived on my birthday, and shortly after, the doorbell rang. A staff member brought a lovely card, a bag full of small beauty products, and a few other things. The hotel is on a quiet street just off a busy avenue, and the metro is a five-minute walk away with two lines that made getting around very easy. My partner and I loved staying at l'Echiquier. I consider Paris my second home, and now I have a true second home there. We're planning to visit again soon and will definitely stay at the Echiquier.
