Hotel Savoy

For a city trip where you're mainly using the room to freshen up and sleep, this place works well. It's small, but that gives it some charm. The room looked renovated and was very clean, so it seemed like the owners had put money into it. The price is really good, and I enjoyed my stay enough to come back. The staff were extremely friendly, even though check-in was at the hotel next door. We had breakfast there too, which seems to be normal. Breakfast itself was a joke: just baguette and jam, with coffee, water, milk or orange juice.

The toilet in my room was so cramped I couldn't sit comfortably, which made it practically unusable. I found this out on arrival, contacted Hotel Savoy and Booking.com straight away, and sent photos asking to cancel and receive a full refund. I spent less than five minutes in the room, so it was effectively unused. Even after acknowledging the problem and speaking with me and Booking.com customer service several times, Hotel Savoy refused a full refund. Their handling of the issue and refund discussions was disappointing, with little empathy or understanding. They seemed unwilling to take responsibility for the inadequate facilities and put the burden back on me. The lack of transparency and accountability around the refund policy only made things more frustrating. I expected Hotel Savoy to care about guest satisfaction and provide decent customer service. I hope they reconsider their position and refund policy so guests who run into unexpected problems are treated fairly. My stay was marred by the way this was handled, and I'd advise future guests to look carefully at the hotel's policies and commitment to customer satisfaction before booking.

We paid far too much for a place with no air conditioning, and our stay happened during a heat wave with temperatures over 90 degrees each day. The noise outside went on from 9 at night until 4 in the morning, with loud music and people yelling in the street. We also heard mice every night, then saw them on the floor and in the toilet two nights into our stay. Nobody cleaned our room all week, and the floors were stained and filthy. The walls had stains everywhere, and the pillows were dirty, stained and lumpy. The place is rodent-infested. The stairs to the rooms are narrow and rickety, with holes, and there's no elevator despite there being no rooms on the ground level. Rooms are packed with furniture, have different floor levels, and are full of trip and head-bumping hazards. There are no sprinklers or fire extinguishers. I'd give this place minus 10 if I could.

Small, simple, clean rooms at a decent budget price. It's convenient, with lots of restaurants and bars right outside, and not far from the center of Paris. The rooms are quite small, and the bathroom is right in the room, so don't stay here if you're sharing with someone you'd rather not see showering naked.
