Hôtel Icône

This was expensive, and I’d warn anyone away from the property. The “Superior” room was tiny, with only about two feet of space for la toilette, partly blocked by the toilet paper holder. The photos don’t show what you’ll actually get, so it felt like a bait and switch. The fan didn’t work, nor did the lights to the left of the bed. In the middle of the night the hair dryer, held up with electrical tape, fell off the wall and startled us. It didn’t work either. Soon after, the metal light switch on the right side of the bed came out of its socket and woke us again. I also woke up to a bug on my pillow, though I saw no more after that. Staff were rude and condescending, as other reviews mention. I don’t often write reviews like this, but I’d advise everyone to stay away.

The only real drawbacks were that the balcony door wouldn’t lock and the hairdryer didn’t work. Otherwise, it was clean and close to the metro, restaurants, and sights within walking distance. Rooms were a bit small, but about average for Paris at this price. A good choice for a few days in the city.

The staff were very friendly and helpful, and gave us tips. In the morning I think the receptionist was called Wills, and the man working evening and night was lovely too. We arrived at 7:30 a.m. and were allowed into our room, even though the listed check-in time was 3 p.m., so we could rest before exploring. The hotel is very centrally located, which made our first Paris visit easier. Our room was small but fine for a short stay, and the mattresses were comfortable. We stayed one night and were very satisfied. I’d accidentally booked for the previous day because I hadn’t checked the date properly, so we lost the money for that night. They charged us only a minimal amount for a new night, even though the receptionist could have charged full price. Thank you for that. We’ll definitely come back. See you soon.

Our stay was great. The reception staff member was a genuinely welcoming guy, and the modern bathroom had a fantastic shower. The stairway could use a fresh coat of paint, though.
