Hôtel Louis II

The decor is welcoming, and the hotel is spotless and in a great location. The rooms are typical Paris size but well equipped. My check-in was less welcoming: a young female staff member pulled faces behind my back and then whispered to the very nice man who was checking me in. That cost the hotel stars.

For six nights, this was a comfortable and convenient base in central Paris. My room had a nice view of the streets and felt quiet enough for good rest, despite being close to plenty of restaurants and cafés. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and housekeeping kept mine neat throughout. Staff were friendly, accommodating, and spoke enough English that communication was easy. Breakfast was €14 for a buffet, with enough to make a full meal. It made mornings simple and saved money compared with eating out every day. The location, service, and atmosphere gave the stay a good balance of comfort and value. The WiFi could be slow, and the connection in the upper rooms didn’t always hold up, especially in the evenings. A couple of the pillows also had a faint, unpleasant smell, even though the rest of the room was spotless. Aside from those things, I thought it was a solid place and would recommend it to anyone after a quiet, convenient base in central Paris.

Our only small complaint was the tiny room, though that may be typical for the area. We’d come back. The location and staff at Hotel Louis 2 were outstanding, with friendly smiles and a real willingness to help. They recommended Hotel Le Relais St Germaine across the street and booked us a dinner reservation there. We thoroughly enjoyed the meal. Breakfast was typical, with a nice range of cold cuts, pastries, eggs and sausage, yogurt, and fruit. They also had a carafe of ready-made cafe American with mugs, a nice touch. The blueberry coffee cake was especially tasty.

Our room was quiet and suited our short visit to beautiful Paris, even though it was small. The location was great for walking to tourist spots, shops, and restaurants, and the staff were friendly and accommodating.
