Maxim Quartier Latin

I chose this hotel for a one-night stop in Paris because I know the area and love the Latin quarter. The staff were pleasant, and room 601 on the top floor was small but clean, comfortable, and nicely decorated. I liked the shower and the aromatic, high-quality products. I also appreciated being able to leave my luggage while I enjoyed Paris before heading to the train station. But a fan or ventilator right outside the window ran all night, so I needed earplugs to get any rest. There was also an unexpected 100€ deposit at check-in, with no mention of it when booking or in later messages. They called it a preauthorization, but the money immediately left my account and wasn’t released until some time after checkout. The evening after I checked out, they said they’d kept it because of supposed “degradation to the mattress” requiring a specialized clean. I’d spilled a little coffee on the sheet that morning and dabbed it right away with water and a towel. The mattress wasn’t properly protected, and when I lifted the sheet to clean it, I saw the water had seeped through. There was no actual stain, so I left the damp spot exposed to dry. I was very surprised they were taking my money, and they didn’t send any photos when I asked for evidence of the damage. We eventually sorted it out and I got a refund after writing a transparent Google review, which I’ve since edited to reflect the resolution. I don’t think this should have happened, and it unfortunately spoiled part of the experience. The hotel and neighborhood were otherwise pleasant, but probably best not to drink coffee in bed or spill anything!

We found the rooms clean and perfectly adequate, even if they were on the small side. The hotel also let us leave our luggage while we went to Lourdes for a couple of nights, and were accommodating when we booked another three nights after we returned. Most of our interactions with staff were fine, though one person could have been friendlier. A little more warmth and attention to guests would make this an easy place to love. Its best feature is the location by Rue Mouffetard, a lively street full of cafés, restaurants, and local shops. It’s a lovely area to explore and has a real Parisian neighborhood feel.

We walked into a fantastic stay from the start. The staff were phenomenal and very informative, and Alexia was a real help since this was our first time in Paris. The room was VERY quaint, and the bed and shower were comfortable, though small. The location in the 5th Arr. was easy to access. I’m a travel agent and would definitely recommend it.

A café or bakery on every corner, and a friendly, very walkable neighborhood near the university and lots of museums. We could walk to the major attractions or take a short bus ride if we preferred. The hotel was clean and easy to get to, and the staff were all helpful and friendly. Loved this hotel, the best of French Quarter.
