Hotel Royal Opera

The wooden floors and old doors made noise that could be disturbing early in the morning. That’s the main downside we found. The building is old, as many in Paris are, but it’s well maintained, and room service was prompt and attentive. Staff were friendly, and there’s a luggage room. Several Metro and train stations are very close, and everything was within walking distance. We were satisfied with our stay.

The bathroom had hair everywhere, rust, and mold around the windows. There was dust all over, and the hangers were sticky. It was really filthy, and honestly, I felt in better hands in India. At €150, I don’t think it was worth the price. I might not have complained if I’d paid €50. We also asked for a coffee at 11am after an early appointment and a tough day, because we didn’t want to go back out. The woman refused to make it since it was outside the serving hours, even though we were willing to pay.

I’ll remember my first visit to Paris forever. The room was tiny, and its window faced a wall very close by. There was no electric kettle, and even getting boiled water wasn’t possible. The walls had dirty marks, which I expected at a three-star hotel. But the worst thing was the big window in the opposite building facing the toilet entrance.

The room was clean, though some of the outlets didn’t work, and that wasn’t a problem for us. Staff were very friendly. We only had breakfast, and the food was simple but enough for us. For a three-star hotel, I found it quite good and comfortable. The location was the biggest plus: right in the center, within walking distance of the Louvre and other sights. Leaving the keys at reception wasn’t an issue for us. The key is large, and staff explain there’s a big fine if it’s lost. Besides, housekeepers have their own keys in other hotels too, so I don’t understand the negative comments about this. We were pleased with our stay and had a wonderful time in Paris.
