The location was excellent, in the charming, lively, mostly pedestrian area behind les Halles and just off rue Montorgueil. Unfortunately, the flat nearly ruined the experience. We rented it for three nights through Booking.com at 58 rue Greneta. It was a converted storage unit, entered through a metal door from an inner courtyard, with one tiny window that didn’t lock. The place looked worn out, and parts of the faux wood floor had been scraped away. It clearly hadn’t had a proper clean in a long time: dirt, fluff, and crumbs were tucked under the bed and sofas and in the corners. Even after we asked for it to be cleaned again, the floor was still dusty and covered in long black hairs that stuck to our socks. A hair above the bathroom door was visible in the mirror and somehow missed by the cleaning team twice. The sofa bed was old, crooked, lumpy, squeaky, and wobbly, though it was still better than the bed. The bedroom shower constantly gave off a foul sewage smell. Wastewater odors also came from the bathroom drain, but at least we could shut that door. We booked through Studio Prestige, a brand of the Swiss holiday rental company Belvilla. Both already have bad reviews online. Belvilla doesn’t seem to list this specific flat on its own website, which makes me wonder if it was too low-standard even for its 1.7-star TrustPilot rating. This feels like a bad-faith company charging premium prices while letting its properties deteriorate. Avoid.
