We stopped at the Parc Beaumont Hotel & Spa in Pau while driving from Bordeaux to the Atlantic Coast, and had a relaxing stay. The park next door is beautiful, with families of swans, and we enjoyed the refreshing indoor pool. The hotel itself was very nice, and both the food and service were excellent. The Pyrenees Mountains are a fairly short drive away and were magnificent, though getting there was a bit harrowing. We hope to return.

The staff really stood out, with their knowledge, professionalism, kindness, and thoughtful recommendations. You can tell they take pride in their work. The modern, elegant facility and food that can hold its own against top-tier restaurants made a strong impression too. Having stayed all over the world, I was far more than pleasantly surprised by this hotel. It captures the best of Pau and the French experience. Hats off to the chef. Keep doing what you're doing!

Pau itself was lovely, but I probably wouldn't stay at this hotel again. It was comfortable, though it seemed to lack character and to be struggling a little. Litter in the car park and nowhere to park outside didn't help. Paying for secure parking seemed fair, but 20 Euros per person each day to use the pool felt mean and inappropriate. Breakfast was nothing special for 26 Euros each: the croissants were inedible, and the pre-cooked omelette looked as if it had been sitting on a hot plate.

Parc Beaumont is very well placed for enjoying Pau and the surrounding area. My room was spacious, the hotel services were excellent, and the staff were friendly throughout. Breakfast had a good range of choices, while dinner changed daily, even if it wasn't the usual carte. I loved my first stay here and would definitely return for business or a holiday.

The place was clean and well located, but I'm not sure it measures up to other five-star hotels in France or elsewhere. My room was small, and the shower was in a bathtub with a single shower head that wouldn't stay up. Getting in and out felt a bit dangerous.
