The Resid For Calixte

We thought we'd booked a room through an agency, but it turned out we hadn't. The chap running the place was patient, kind, and understanding, and managed to make up a room for us at short notice. I'd absolutely stay again. The accommodation was fantastic in a lovely part of the world. His handmade, homemade pizzas were amazing, and the wood oven smell drifting up to our room in the evenings was lovely. In the morning, he even offered to drive into town to pick up pastries from the bakery for breakfast. Great food and drink for the money on the hill.

I would've liked aircon, but for the price I can't really complain, and I'd definitely stay again. The host was friendly and flexible, making us fantastic pizza late at night for much less than we'd paid elsewhere, and even bringing it to our room. In the morning he offered coffee and croissants and charged very little again. When I left a tip, he secretly put a bottle of red wine in our car as we were leaving. Thank you to the host.

What we expected to be a nice stay in a beautiful village turned into a nightmare. We booked for two adults and a toddler, but when we arrived the host was very unfriendly and demanded double the price. After an hour of arguing, while he yelled on the phone at the booking.com representative, he refused to refund us. We left and had to find somewhere else to sleep with our sleepy toddler and pregnant wife. Worst host ever. Do not book here!!!

Breakfast was included, with fruit first, then bread or pastries and jam, plus coffee. The rooms were comfortable, though the plastic liner under the bottom sheet was unpleasant. The location is excellent, a couple of minutes from the old town and right across from the tourist office. It's about a 20 minute walk from the town and train station, a bit of a trek with luggage, but we managed. The owner doesn't speak English, but luckily my wife speaks french. That wasn't a problem, and he went out of his way to help whenever he could and make us comfortable. There are restaurants nearby at the entrance and in the old town, and dinner is also an option. This would be our first choice if we came back.
