Garrigae Distillerie de Pézenas

The property suited my needs exactly. We loved how beautiful it was, inside and out. The two bedrooms were large and decorated with elegant, modern taste, and each had its own shower and toilet. The kitchen had everything we needed, the reception staff were very helpful, and both breakfast and dinner were lovely. There’s also a nice, large parking lot.

The hotel's location was perfect, and we had a really nice foot massage. The receptionist was kind and made me feel better, and the staff kept trying to help with our requests. Still, finding leftovers from previous guests in the fridge and on the balcony was disappointing. There was no table for opening a suitcase, so I had to use the room's table for it and couldn't use that table otherwise.

Parking was handy, and we liked having a garden. The room was comfortable enough for a night's rest before getting back on the road, and it was clean, with satisfactory amenities and a convenient location. We arrived around 23:00 and were glad to find a room at the last minute. The staff initially quoted 116 euros, the same price we'd seen when booking. At checkout the next morning, another staff member presented a bill for 172 euros. After we discussed it, the amount was changed to 138 euros. It seemed the difference involved taxes and a 15 euro fee for our small dog, who weighed only 2.5 kilograms. We hadn't been told at check-in that pets might cost extra, or given a clear breakdown, so the surprise charges left us frustrated. The red corridor carpet also looked old and worn next to the otherwise pleasant decor. Replacing or refurbishing it would improve the look. The stay was mixed: we slept comfortably, but clearer information about fees would have made things much easier.

The food was bland, and it came on cold plates. Although the restaurant was quiet out of season, the serving staff seemed focused on clearing up and getting us out, which felt especially odd since this is a hotel and some of our party were staying there. Reception greeted us warmly, but the service at the table was disappointing given the venue's potential in the heart of beautiful Pézenas. We've had better evenings there and hope it improves.
