Hôtel Le Saint Germain

I stayed on 13/09/25, and only after checking out did I start noticing red, itchy bites. More appeared over the next 24 hours. Before they were visible, I had spent the day travelling in a car and hadn't stayed anywhere else. I checked into another hotel the following day, after all the bites had appeared. I've never written a negative review before, but this was deeply disappointing. I contacted the hotel as soon as I realised what was happening. Instead of understanding, I was told bed bugs might be connected to personal hygiene, which was insulting and incorrect. They sent me an inspection certificate dated 18/09/25, several days after my stay, and that didn't reassure me. The owner's response shocked me. He got defensive and insisted the hotel was clean, despite many negative online reviews mentioning hygiene problems. There were also numerous past guest complaints about rude staff, which sadly matched my experience. I wish I'd read them beforehand. I gave the hotel the benefit of the doubt and contacted the manager directly to try to resolve things fairly, but was treated rudely and dismissively. The owner's messages felt aggressive and often didn't address what I had written, so a constructive discussion seemed impossible. When I said that as a disappointed guest I had the right to leave an honest review, he called it a “threat.” I thought that was unreasonable. We left early, before reception opened, and hadn't paid the city tax at that point. I first offered to pay it later and apologised. But after the hotel refused a refund or even basic acknowledgment of how badly the bites affected my holiday, I felt completely disregarded and didn't take it further. Even if the hotel truly believes nothing was wrong, dismissing my concerns, shifting blame, and showing no empathy made me feel mistreated. A respectful, professional response would have made a huge difference.
