At 5.59am we were woken by a rumbling noise from the kitchen. I’d mentioned the noise to the receptionist when we arrived the day before, and she said it would stop at 10pm. She didn’t tell us it would start again at 5.59am. The mattress my daughter was given was horrible. I wish we’d driven the 112 miles back to Kent last night. We’ve unfortunately paid for another night of torture on that mattress, and for being woken again at 6am tomorrow.

The staff were lovely and really helpful, and the beds were comfortable. The rooms are a bit tired, and the same goes for the en-suite.

The staff deserve a special mention, they were really friendly and pleasant. For the price, the room amenities were adequate, the bedding was comfortable, and breakfast was plentiful. The location is ideal if you need to get to the university campus.

The room felt outdated, and although the bathroom had been improved, it still wasn’t enough for me. The shower head was too small and the water flow too weak to wash my hair, especially with long hair. It wasn’t practical at all. The hosts were friendly and accommodating about storing our suitcase. Breakfast in the dining room was generous, a good start before our busy four-hour competition. The hotel is far from the city center, so a vehicle is essential. Buses run well during the day, but it’s best to plan ahead for the evening.

The owner and his wife gave us a warm welcome and were very friendly. The modern bar has a darts corner for anyone who enjoys playing, and the bar’s customers were friendly too. Our room was clean and breakfast was plentiful. I recommend this hotel.
