Les Jardins du Cèdre, Boutique hotel & gastronomy

We felt we’d paid too much for what we got. The mattress was good, but the room wasn’t clean, and the bathroom needs to be completely replaced. The staircase and rooms looked like they’d had some kind of refreshment years ago. Staff were friendly, and the location isn’t bad, with a nice view over the port and sea. The outdoor pool looks great, and there’s free parking on the premises.

The main problem was privacy. From the street and parking lot, there was no way to shield the room except by closing the heavy curtains, which left us in the dark. A small veil on the window seems like an easy fix. There were very few amenities, and no mirror. The hotel feels dated; our room was small, the bath miniscule, and the bathroom comically tiny, definitely no room for two people at once. The pool and restaurants really are as nice as in the pictures. The location is not too bad, and it wasn’t too noisy despite the road.

We had a joyful afternoon at les jardins du cèdre, with a fantastic view from the mountain and a pleasant setting. The service was nice, and there was plenty of parking. The innovative dishes featured local fish and boeuf, with a wide wine list that included local wines and others. If you stay at the hotel, you can enjoy as much wine as you want. But you’ll probably drive there, since there’s nearly no public transportation, so you’ll have to control yourself and not drink too much collioure wine XD

The morning staff serving breakfast were warm and helpful, and their smiles brightened the place. But breakfast had very limited choice for its price. Reception staff were friendly too, and the hotel is on a hill outside town, not too far to walk into the centre, with a sea view from the far side. Our room was small and needed good care, but we didn’t mind much since we were only stopping overnight. The room and staircase seemed to have had some kind of refreshment years ago. Between 10-11pm after dinner, we found that the bathroom radiator wasn’t working. Outside it was about 0 degree with wind about 61 miles per hour. The aircon above the door only heated that area, and the bed got no warmth from it. The bathroom was icy cold. There was no instruction booklet or phone number in the room apart from reception, and reception didn’t answer. After showering in the freezing bathroom, I had a headache in the morning. In the morning, we told reception what had happened. She pointed out a piece of paper with night emergency numbers on the front door, but we hadn’t noticed it going in and out. Even if we had, should guests have to go to the front door to find a number after they’ve taken their clothes off in the room at almost midnight? It would be more considerate to have the emergency contact number by the bed. I don’t think the management considered things from the guests’ point of view.
