B&B HOTEL Cambrai

We left very early after a terrible night. There was hair all over the bed, the bathroom was dirty, and both the beds and pillows were really uncomfortable. I tried to reach Stay for Long, who we booked through, and B&B afterward, but neither got back to me. Shocking customer service. We arrived late with tired children and had to use the self check-in. The screen was blurry and hard to use. Since we’d already paid, we didn’t expect it to ask for payment again, but it wouldn’t accept our reference number. The people on the intercom weren’t helpful, and in the end we paid again because it was late and the kids were exhausted.

The room was really spacious, though the cleaning could have been better, and I could hear my neighbor loudly enough to wake me up. The welcome was good, but the staff member had trouble finding my reservation in the software and printing my invoice. I’d recommend it if you’re looking for an inexpensive hotel.

The rooms and bathrooms were surprisingly nice for such a cheap hotel: big, very clean, modern, and minimalist. It’s a good, affordable base for visiting the WW1 battlefields. Getting help was awful. Reception was always closed, and when I called the B&B help number after trying Google Translate, they hung up on me. The people I managed to find didn’t speak English. I don’t expect them to, but I tried showing them Google Translate on my phone. Only one girl was willing to look at the screen; the others ignored me. She seemed lovely, but didn’t really manage to help.

This is a budget place, and you get what you pay for. The room was clean and roomy, but the bed was too small, and the walls are thin, so it’s down to luck whether your neighbors are quiet. The hotel sits in an odd spot at the far end of a big commercial and business district. I don’t really understand why there’s a hotel here, though having two suggests there’s enough business. The interior design also seemed to borrow a few ideas from early Wes Anderson movies.
