Renaissance Paris La Defense Hotel

Getting around was easy, and there’s a mall and supermarket nearby for shopping. The breakfast arrangement was the letdown: they told us to leave by 10:15. I’m used to being reminded that breakfast ends at 10 and that we should get our food before then, but I’ve never been asked to leave by a deadline. It was a first for me at a hotel.

The location is especially handy for the nearby arena, just a five-minute walk away, and the mall is close too. La Defense is a modern commercial district, so it doesn’t have central Paris’s romantic feel, though Metro Line 1 makes reaching the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, or Louvre straightforward. I found the hotel a practical choice for events or business, more so than for a short sightseeing trip around central Paris. The rooms are spacious and clean, with comfortable beds, strong showers, and contemporary decor. Some have city views. Breakfast has a good range of options, and the 24-hour gym is better than most hotel gyms. There’s also a restaurant and bar, though meals and drinks can feel pricey. No pool. The staff were warm and helpful, including with reservations and local directions. The hotel offers a comfortable four-star stay at a lower price than hotels in central Paris. I heard of occasional housekeeping mix-ups, but they were resolved quickly. Some rooms may feel warm, and the pillows can be thin. Loyalty member upgrades can include lounge access, breakfast, and evening drinks. Bathrooms have the basics, while extra toiletries need to be requested.

I’m here for work, so the location works for me. It’s in a business district on the edge of the city, among lots of high-rises, and I wouldn’t suggest it as a base for first-time visitors focused on Paris attractions. There’s a decent-sized room for a solo business traveler or a couple. Breakfast is decent too, with an egg station, and starts at 6:30. The mall, Auchan Supermarket, and plenty of food options are next door, while the metro is downstairs.

For over EUR 300 a night at a four-star place, I expected much better. The bathroom was in poor shape, with drains that didn’t work and water dripping all over the floor. At EUR 150 a night, I might have let it go, since that’s about what this place is worth.
