Le Bailli de Suffren

We paid EUR 750 a night for a sea-view room, but the first room looked more like a garden view and was above the restaurant. We asked to move right away and were told there was no room available. After asking again the next day, we got a smaller room with a sea view and balcony. At that price, I didn’t find the hotel special. The gym is tiny, with just a few machines, the rooms feel a bit outdated, and the pool toilets were dirty and smelly. The location is also far from other restaurants, so you need to drive elsewhere to eat. The meals were expensive and often disappointing. The sardine starter had only three small pieces and cost EUR 24. My medium-rare lamb rack was well done. Pool restaurant fries were greasy and soft; we sent the plate back, but they left it on the bill. A chicken skewer smelled a bit like bad meat. The pork dinner was not cooked through, and when I asked, the waiter checked with the chef but didn’t get back to me until I followed up. He said it was supposed to be a bit undercooked, but admitted it was completely raw like mine. I had to ask for it to be removed from the bill. I don’t want to be served undercooked pork, and pork should be well cooked. After that, we tried to avoid eating at the hotel. There seemed to be too many untrained staff, service was below average, and nothing impressed me. They also seemed to charge for whatever they could, including EUR 6 for a small bottle of water in the minibar. The kid’s chair we requested was covered in dirt. There are much better hotels at this price.

The hotel is in a beautiful setting, but I think the price is at the very top end for a four-star place with these features. The gym is bare minimum, with cardio machines only, and the food was hit and miss. Most of it was okay, but the pool bar fries were greasy, perhaps triple cooked, and the pork in the main restaurant was still partly rare inside. Both dishes were taken off the bill after we insisted. Even simple things felt more complicated than they needed to be, like the pool towel card system.

The rooms were small, as is usual in Paris, but the design made them comfortable enough that we barely noticed. Breakfast was delicious, and the staff were kind and helpful. One of the nicest hotels I’ve stayed in.

The hotel is lovely and in a great spot in France. Breakfast service and the car parking service were perfect. Pool service needs to improve, though, and it would be nice to have drinking water available there. Still, I’d recommend this very nice hotel.
