Auberge de Jeunesse Rennes

Service was very good, and I had a good stay. The rooms, washrooms, and toilets were clean. There’s plenty of room in the shared areas, lots of tables, outdoor space, and a large kitchen with a fridge. Bedsheets are provided, but bring your own towel and padlock, or rent them there. Breakfast is available to buy. I was there at the end of August, so the weather wasn’t an issue, though the windows look quite old. The location isn’t right in the center, but it’s about 15 minutes from St Malo road, which was good enough for me. I’d add more power sockets and a shelf by each bed, though I can see the building itself is quite old and may have more urgent needs. My one small issue was another guest who got up at 5:30 am, switched on all the lights, including in the washroom, and left the washroom door open while brushing her teeth. She kept going back and forth to her bed with the water running, then left the room at 6:30 am with all the lights on. It was crazy. I was too tired to complain, but I’d say that isn’t common behavior.

The staff were friendly every time we interacted with them, and we really enjoyed the nice communal spaces, all the games, and the outdoor ping pong table. The beds aren’t very comfortable, and the bathroom is tiny. The shower was difficult in every way: no mount to hold it overhead, poor lighting, and no lip to stop water spilling into the rest of the bathroom. There’s a nice river walk nearby, and it’s easy enough to reach some good commercial areas for food or shopping.

The hostel had a really good feel to it, and it was perfect for a group of tourists. Everyone was so kind and helpful 😊😊

Yann deserves a special mention for helping me out when my phone broke. He gave me useful information about what I could do. The place itself is charming, in a beautiful spot, and has all the amenities you might need. Highly recommend it.
