Best Western Plus Hotel & SPA Le Schoenenbourg

We loved our few days at this Best Western in June, while visiting the Alsace towns my grandparents came from before moving on to their hometowns. The staff were incredible and made us feel welcome, and dinner was fantastic. The clean, quiet property felt safe, too. It’s right in the center of a magnificent little town, with an easy base for day trips to Colmar, Strasbourg, the castle, and bike rides. We thoroughly enjoyed the stay and hope to return. We’d definitely choose the hotel again.

The room was clean and had a great view, and the hotel’s location was also great. We enjoyed tasting the local wines, but dinner was disappointing for a four-star hotel. We booked executive rooms that were supposed to have king-size beds, yet ours had two separate single beds. They also charged an extra 60 EUR for our three-year-old, without providing a crib or even a third set of towels. When we asked reception about the charge given the bed and towels, they responded rudely and unprofessionally, saying that’s how the hotel works. I can’t believe a four-star hotel operates that way.

Riquewihr was one of our favorite little Alsatian towns, and this was a lovely place to stay. Our two-story room had plenty of space for the family, with windows looking out over a vineyard. It’s just a few steps from the historic center, and there was free parking right outside, which is hard to find in France. Nearly perfect for us. The only issue was the air conditioning: it seemed to switch off mysteriously at night, and we couldn’t work out how to turn it on again.

A good base for visiting Riquewihr, with a short walk into the lovely village and good parking. The rooms were adequate for a night.
