You only have to cross the patio and climb a few steps to reach the ski slopes, so the location makes this a genuinely ski-in, ski-out little hotel.

The rooms were clean and a good size, and the hotel has its own gated parking. Breakfast options were quite limited under the Covid restrictions, though that didn't take away from the stay. Hotel Le Chardon Bleu Risoul sits at the highest point of Risoul 1850, right beside the lifts and slopes, with a perfect view over the Alps. In summer, the lack of city lights made the stars look incredible on a clear night. I even saw falling stars during my visit, which was unforgettable. The fresh air, altitude and total quiet gave me the best night's sleep of my two-week holiday. I woke after seven hours feeling as rested as if I'd slept for two days. I'd love to come back next year.
