Hotel De France

The location near the castle, in the nicest part of town, is a real plus, and the staff are very nice. The breakfast had good-quality products, though it wasn’t really to my taste. My bed wasn’t very comfortable, and some rooms don’t have private bathrooms.

I knew it was a restaurant, but I was hoping to get a small, light meal. When I explained that to the male server, he said no, they needed the table. He didn’t offer to suggest another place nearby.

The food and wine orders took ages, after we’d already waited nearly half an hour for our table of six. Meanwhile, walk-ins were allowed in and served ahead of us. We had told them when booking, and reminded the owner when he took our order, that one person in our group was gluten intolerant. They ignored it completely, serving the main course on Tagliatelle and the dessert with digestive biscuits. When we complained, they just rolled their eyes. The place is overpriced and the service is appalling. Don’t go.

We had a lovely end-of-year work dinner here. The food was absolutely delicious and there was a good choice of fine wines. Our waiter was friendly, polite, patient with the English tourists at another table, and had a good sense of humour. I can’t comment on prices since my boss paid. I’d recommend the place.
