Les Locations du Puits

The Christmas decorations at the hotel entrance looked lovely. We had a comfortable ground-floor room for our one-night stay, and the generous breakfast could be brought to the room. The place is right in the heart of Rochefort-en-Terre, which made it easy to enjoy the town, and it felt like good value.

For sightseeing, it’s hard to beat this inn’s central spot in Rochefort-en-Terre, and the room price was reasonable. The town is tiny and known for its Christmas lights. Getting luggage to the room is less convenient, though, since its entrance is on a back street where you can’t pull up to unload. Paid public parking is about a five-minute walk away.

This was the only bad experience during an otherwise perfect September holiday in France. We never stayed there because I had to cancel the reservation at the owner’s insistence. We couldn’t arrive during the hours they were available, after being asked to come after 6 p.m. without being told there was a cut-off time. Our outing ran longer because of that request, and we let them know in time. Then came a very unpleasant call, with an aggressive tone, saying they were completely unwilling to receive us at 10 p.m. Maybe we were partly at fault, and there was a communication failure on the host’s side too, but the rudeness and lack of hospitality stood out most.

The studio was peaceful, beautifully arranged, and looked onto a quiet lane, right in the center. The price was very reasonable, and breakfast was included, with plenty to eat. I was welcomed so warmly. I highly recommend it.
