B&B HOTEL Rouen Centre Rive Gauche

We arrived around 7 p.m. on 6 August and checked in. The area seemed rough compared with the other side of the river, so we went back to the hotel, unpacked, and had a few drinks in the bar. One customer was arguing aggressively about his room, and I went outside because I was worried about the receptionist. There were a couple of rats running around out there, though I suppose it’s near a river. When we got back to our room, the bed hadn’t been changed. It was disgusting: the bottom sheet had a used, blood-stained plaster on it. Reception offered to move us, but it was midnight and we’d already unpacked, so I asked for clean bedding instead. They gave it to us and we changed it ourselves because of the late hour. The toiletries were empty and the window lock was broken. I asked for a refund the next day because of the state of the room, but they refused, saying they’d offered a room change. That wasn’t acceptable at that hour after we’d unpacked. B&B said they don’t refund bookings made through booking.com, while booking.com said it was the hotel’s responsibility. Both passed me around. It was a poor, dirty experience. I’d stay across the river. Rive Gauche feels like a ghetto, and this hotel is dirty. The cleaning staff need basic hygiene training. Avoid!

We got in late with our tour group and left again early after a small buffet breakfast, so I only really had time to shower and sleep. The hotel was clean and modern. The flooring in my room was an interesting choice 🤔.

The room was quiet, the bed was comfortable, and everything was clean. The staff were friendly, as usual. I found the makeover less successful: the dark anthracite grey and bubblegum pink walls, dark flooring, and harsh, inefficient lighting made the room feel gloomy. The bathroom was renovated more tastefully. Breakfast was a letdown too, with few choices and food that didn't taste good. It works well enough if you just need somewhere functional to sleep.

The location is really convenient, about a 10-minute walk from the center, with shops nearby, and there's underground parking at the hotel. My room was lovely, clean, and well kept, with a new bathroom. The service was nice too. I recommend it!
