Le Clos Normand

Our tour group spent two nights here, October 5-7, 2025, and it was our favorite hotel during six nights in Normandy. It’s very well placed for a short walk to memorials for the North Shore Regiment and other Canadian units that landed here on June 6, 1944. If you can, ask for a room overlooking the beach. The rooms are comfortable and reasonably priced, and the staff service, on-site restaurant, and excellent breakfasts were real highlights. There were a few room issues. The toilets felt cramped in every room, and two rooms had problems: one had no shower curtain, and another had a broken shower wand bracket. Some rooms may benefit from a closer look if the hotel is remodeled.

The fish and chips arrived cold, so the manager took them away. After a long wait they came back still cold. The waiter and waitress apologized repeatedly, only charged us for one meal, and even left off the small carafe of wine. The manager, though, didn’t apologize or acknowledge that anything had gone wrong. The waiting staff were excellent, but the management didn’t seem concerned. I’d avoid this restaurant.

We went back for lunch after a great dinner. The fish soup was gorgeous, though the main wasn’t cooked the way I like it. They reheated it, which helped me get through it. Dinner had been the meal of my holiday: exquisite oysters and excellent wine, eaten in a lovely glass-fronted space looking out at the beach. I like this place.

The location right on the beach is great, and the staff were very helpful. I’d choose a sea-facing room over a balcony room. Room quality varies a lot, and although they’ve recently been refreshed, the standard still isn’t quite there. We sometimes had no hot water, there were no in-room coffee or tea facilities, and the towels were poor. It feels close to a five-star stay, but those issues got in the way.
