My child came back from a school trip after the group had to leave Hôtel de Normandie in Saint-Aubin-sur-Mer and move to another hotel the next day. The students and staff were so appalled by the conditions that staying there wasn't an option. There were crumbs scattered across the beds, as though the sheets hadn't been changed, and parts of the building smelled strongly of urine. The food was burnt black and inedible, and hair was found in some meals. There were holes in the walls, broken fixtures, and a general feeling of disrepair. The bathroom doors wouldn't lock, so the children had no privacy. As a concerned parent, I find it hard to believe the hotel is still operating and taking school bookings. There was no acceptable hygiene standard, no sense of safety, and no responsibility taken. Parents, teachers, and anyone arranging a group trip should avoid it. It's filthy, neglected, and completely unsuitable for children, or frankly anyone.

The beach was nearby, and walking there was interesting because it is one of the five beaches with history linked to D-Day. Staff were very friendly, though one night they shouted at us, and I would have liked them to provide more than just water. The animals wandered around freely, which I enjoyed, though I know that won't suit everyone. The dogs and chickens were especially friendly. The hotel itself felt old and run down. The walls were damp, with some holes and marks, and the rooms were in poor shape too. Food wasn't great and there wasn't much variety. The 'pool tables' were just tables with green felt and holes, so I wouldn't call them proper pool tables. Honestly, I wasn't expecting this, and it wasn't amazing. It's not somewhere I'd be quick to recommend.

Sharing a room with 12 others meant we had just 6 charging ports and no bin. The shower door didn't lock either. Still, it was a nice walk to the beach, which was very close, and the black wild chicken was nice. They also had very well-behaved dogs. The chicken nuggets were really good, and they served bread with every meal. We got baguettes every morning for lunch there, the best baguettes I've ever had. They had a cool game played with pool cues that was kind of like football, though maybe I made that up, I don't know. 🤫🤫🧏🧏🧏

I was unlucky enough to be put in the room with 12 people, and there was only one fully working shower. The room had fewer things per person than the room for two, which felt unfair. Other rooms had problems too, including showers that didn't work and broken blinds. Most of the staff were nice, but they treated the teachers with much more respect. At dinner, which wasn't nice, they ignored us and listened to the teachers instead. The owner lived below our room and wandered around the hotel, even moving our bags without asking. Their two dogs were friendly, but they pooped on the grass and it was left there for three days. I don't believe they'll ever clean it. The building looks like it was made in 1890 and hasn't been changed since. There was access to the roof, which is a major health and safety issue. There was also a strange drawing of a woman on the window that made me uncomfortable.

I couldn't get any rest because dogs were constantly barking and causing a disturbance. The food was bland, often cold, and terrible, and the staff were unfriendly and unhelpful, which made the stay even more unpleasant. The doors were broken, so there was no real sense of security or privacy. The roof was moulding, looked disgusting, and left the whole place smelling damp and unpleasant. Staying at Hotel De Normandie was a horrendous experience, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
