Hotel Picardy

The photos make the place look much nicer than it is. Rooms are small and uncomfortable, with no wardrobe, drawers, or proper place to put an empty bag. The bathroom has the basics you need. At check-in, the owner tried to charge an extra 9€ as a cancellation fee. We knew it was a 2 star hotel, but the pictures made 70€ seem reasonable. It wasn't, by any standard. I would have paid 45€ and still been disappointed. Why isn't there a level a hotel has to meet? Ho hum. I'll read the reviews BEFORE next time. Future guests, beware. All is not as it appears. The owner's demeanour made it seem like she couldn't care less. There are plenty of other nice places to stay in the area.

The location is great, but other hotels offer more for less. We found another hotel with a 160cm bed, a lounge, a big TV screen, and a coffee shop. It wasn't as near the center, but it was a 5-minute bus ride away and cost less. This place should cost no more than 45€, and I wouldn't stay even at that price. We booked it for one night again after having stayed two years ago, but we left for another hotel, just as we had before. We had forgotten why we left early last time. We thought it was because the room was too hot and there was no air conditioning, but that wasn't the only reason. The room is more than basic, and the bathroom door is a joke. The soap, made in P.RC, was one tiny bar for two people, with a warning to avoid eye contact. There was noise from upstairs. When I asked directly about the price, the “charming” lady quoted 79€. I asked why that was 9 euro more than booking. com. After doubting me and checking online, she said it was because we had chosen a non-refundable booking. If I hadn't asked, I would have paid 79€. That's not on. The “charming” act is fake, and she is an opportunist. They seem to want more rooms instead of better ones. There's no lounge to relax in, so you're stuck in your room. They live on the premises, and the breakfast room is only open from 7h to 9h, with no use at other times. They advertise parking, but you can park on the road for free without any problem. In my opinion, it shouldn't actually be classed as a hotel, but as a bed and breakfast, and even then...

We had no expectations after reading other critical reviews, so it was a relief to find clean, tidy accommodation. It was a quirky and memorable stop for our family for one night, on the way to our holiday destination. The star rating reflects the general appearance and very simple facilities.

We booked a family room, which was nicely presented, clean, and comfortable. The lady was welcoming, and it had everything we wanted at a good price.
