Château Hotel Grand Barrail

The waiter was the highlight for us, truly the best. We had a fantastic couple of days, with a perfect room, a lovely spa, and an extraordinary dinner. Merci beaucoup. ❤️

The setting is gorgeous, but the service left us very unhappy. We went in for drinks and coffee and found the place understaffed, with slow service and mediocre quality. It was shocking and heartbreaking to see a male waiter being rude to a younger female colleague. Then we were overcharged 70€, had to pay again, and had to process a refund. We wouldn’t go back.

We stayed at Chateau Grand Barrail for our Bordeaux-region vacation, and it worked perfectly as a base, just a short hop from Saint Emilion, one of the area’s wine hubs. The chateau has a quaint feel and was a nice spot for breakfast or a glass of wine. Our room was beautiful and modern, and the staff were very kind and helpful. I’d highly recommend it for an elevated stay in the region.

We left early and lost the prepaid fee for the second night, $1000. Management offered no compensation and only told me I’d pay “the penalty.” We live half the year in France and half in the US, and there are much nicer places to stay in Saint Emilion. Hotel Pavie is wonderful. We chose one of the best suites, but it was dark and small, and the upstairs shower leaked onto the floor downstairs. On the night we arrived, we were told guests couldn’t eat at the restaurant because it was full. That first evening, a group of drunk British men yelled and screamed. Later, at the bar, another group of drunk men shouted profanities. When I raised it with management, they really didn’t care. Very disappointing.
