The grounds also have a neo-Gothic chapel. The castle dates to around 1860; shortly after it was built, the Dutch shipping family Van Neunen acquired it.

The birdsong and quiet made our four-night stay especially relaxing. The owners are incredibly kind and flexible, and you can tell they love their château. It’s a huge property that’s being restored, with a magical castle setting and an excellent continental breakfast. Nantes is only 15 minutes away by car. A huge thank you to Vincent for taking such good care of us.

Staying in the salmon-colored room at Château St. Thomas gave us a lovely taste of castle life for a night. The property is superb, and the owners have lots of plans to improve the grounds and services further. The health and safety measures in place felt reassuring without being oppressive. We’d happily do it again.

The breakfast was good, but the building and grounds are poorly maintained. It feels more like a hotel than a bed and breakfast, and there’s hardly any contact with the owners. Soundproofing is very limited, and there was a strong tobacco smell.

The place felt calm and welcoming, and we were very comfortable there. We had a lovely weekend, with a warm welcome from the very friendly owner. Our room with spa had a pleasant rotunda and a peaceful view across the park in the distance. The decor was tasteful and everything was very clean. We’ll gladly recommend it to friends, and we’d like to return.
