The room was basic but just right for me. It’s right in town, and parking is free if you can find a space. No tea-making facilities, though. Pubs are pricey and the food isn’t cheap, but that’s holiday spending.

We picked the aligot, and it came in a generous serving. We enjoyed everything from the main course through dessert, with a real taste of Auvergne to finish. The staff were friendly and helpful too. We’d stopped for lunch at the restaurant in the Hôtel Les Roches after walking around the fortified town of Saint-Flour. It was a lovely surprise to find local cooking with good ingredients there, and the place seemed to bring some life to the otherwise quiet village on a Monday. There are traditional dishes, simpler choices and daily specials, all tempting and fairly priced. I’d definitely recommend it. Enjoy your meal!
