Camping Les Grosses Pierres

The grounds were clean and well cared for, and the pool area was excellent, with different pools for all ages and a slide. We visited off season, so it wasn’t crowded. Our two-day stay was pleasant overall, despite a few irritating snags. After a long drive we arrived just after 4pm, hot and hungry, but the shop was shut and there was nowhere open to get food. Our mobile home was clean and modern, though not ready for guests: tables and chairs for the deck were inside, and the table was piled with dishes and kitchen things. We were only using it to sleep, so we left everything as it was. There wasn’t even toilet paper, and nowhere to buy any. We’d planned a relaxing evening meal by the pool and bar after a day out, then found the restaurant is closed on Wednesdays. The chalets are packed close together. Those were minor annoyances, though, and the site itself was very pleasant.

The pool was nice, but this place was rubbish for tent camping. We were the only tent on the whole site and felt unwelcome, like second-class visitors. The only water tap for filling up was the one by the washing area, and there was no soap in the toilet block. The claimed 900 metres to the beach felt very optimistic. We didn’t feel secure and left after three days, even though we’d booked a week. The island itself was boring to us, and the site was very expensive for what it offered. This isn’t luxury camping.

The pool was unbearable with the music blaring. On Wednesday, the noise carried across the camp until midnight. If you want your kids’ ears blasted, this is the place.

A really nice campsite, with good facilities and friendly staff. It was quiet at night, too.
