The food was good, though nothing special, and my partner had digestive problems after eating the salmon, which may not have been perfectly fresh. The castle has plenty of charm and is worth seeing, even if it’s looking rather run down and needs a lot of repairs. The staff were friendly and did their best to make us comfortable. Still, it’s quite expensive for what you get, and you can hear the nearby highway, so it isn’t completely quiet.

We had some of the most peaceful nights’ sleep here, and all the amenities were superb. The château looks like something from Disney, with stunning grounds, and it’s a great place for a dream wedding. Just off the motorway, it worked perfectly as a stop on our holiday in south-west France. St Flour is a must-see. We’ll definitely be back next year.

The gardens are wonderful, and the place itself is beautiful. Friendly too, and a great option for solo travellers.

The castle is in poor shape and seems to be deteriorating quickly. The manager showed nothing but contempt for customers, so avoid this place at all costs. We’d had a very good dinner here the night before, but things went badly when our friends, who weren’t staying at the hotel, tried to split the restaurant bill with us. The manager, who was also acting as receptionist and server, lost control and made incoherent remarks. Our card had already been charged using the details we’d left when booking, and we felt unsafe. We had to leave without getting to sleep in our room.

The lodge was nicely decorated, and our room had plenty of space. The kids especially loved the jacuzzi. We were also very pleased with the restaurant and the regional menu we tried. It does cost a bit more, but I think the trip is worth it.
