ibis Nantes Saint Herblain

Usually I stay here at weekends, and I've been back many times. It's a handy stop on the way to or from the ferry. My last visit was midweek and felt a bit chaotic, perhaps because the staff were new or the hotel was extremely busy. I'd probably stay again anyway.

Breakfast was good, and both the hotel and my room were really clean during my three-night work trip. The place is nicely decorated, too. Big thanks to cassia and the rest of the team for making it comfortable and friendly.

We didn't have credit cards, so in the end we weren't asked to pay the €50 deposit. It felt odd that the hotel treated guests differently depending on whether they had a credit card, and staff hadn't explained the deposit clearly until we asked. At 8:30, while we were still asleep, someone opened the door we'd locked the night before. Luckily our dog barked. I don't feel safe sleeping somewhere someone can come in and wake you up. The tram stop is a bit of a walk, and construction outside made noise from 8:00 am. Keep the window shut if you don't want an early wake-up.

The room could use fresh paint and a carpet clean, and a couple of things had been repaired poorly. Still, the shower was great, the bed very comfortable, and it was quiet enough for a good night's sleep. We were really impressed by the restaurant. The evening food was excellent quality for a chain hotel, and that alone might bring us back to the area. Breakfast had a huge selection, everything was fresh and lovely, and I was surprised to find Earl Grey tea. The bar was a pleasant spot for a drink, and the public areas have a modern look with a traditional touch. They seem to have been decorated recently. Staff were friendly and helpful, especially when we checked in during the evening and at the bar and restaurant.
