Château de Sury

The kids and dog had room to let off steam in the park, with the dog kept away from the game. Our daughter loved playing in the pool and with their dog, and chatting with Genevieve, who was always so attentive. We came back for the first time in eight years and it felt just as welcoming as before. Genevieve and her husband Hubert run the place with such warmth. There’s a touch of grandeur in the spacious rooms, with paintings and gold mirrors, and the chessboard-floor dining room. We had aperitifs on the terrace, and in the morning a peacock pecked at the window asking to be fed. A chateau in the same family since before the French Revolution might sound a bit posh, but this one is stylish and refined without being snobby. We’ve had another lovely stay and will be back for a third visit, hopefully sooner.
