AC Hotel Saint-Julien-en-Genevois

The food was good, and the hotel itself is modern, clean, and nice. The internet, though, was awful. I couldn’t get anything done unless I could use my own network.

It’s a little outside Geneva, which means less city traffic, and it’s easy to reach the main roads. Annecy is about half an hour away and worth seeing. We had a good breakfast with a decent range of choices, and the rooms were a decent size and very clean. After five weeks in France and several hotels, this one stood out. Everything felt fairly new, with an updated design and the amenities we wanted. The staff were really friendly and accommodating. There was a mix-up when a housekeeper took one of our shopping bags, apparently thinking we’d checked out. Our unusual reservation may have contributed, and it was sorted out quickly. Grace handled it politely and efficiently, which I appreciated. I’m happy to recommend this Marriott hotel.

The service felt cold and nobody was helpful. My room didn’t even have a complimentary bottle of water. I was also given €10 a day in credit, but it couldn’t be used in the market for a snack or water. It only applied to the bar or breakfast, which costs €20 and has very limited choices, so it didn’t feel useful. I usually count on Marriott for consistency and for recognizing loyalty members, but this stay at AC Hotel was a real letdown. There was no help with luggage, not even basic assistance. They display the Marriott branding everywhere, yet I felt there was no recognition of Bonvoy members. I’m disappointed. AC Hotel uses the Marriott name but didn’t deliver the experience I expect from Marriott.

There aren’t any services around the hotel, so pay attention to where it is. If you have a car and want to explore outside Geneva, though, it’s well placed, with Annecy and Chamonix less than an hour away. The rooms and facilities felt new, modern, and exceptionally clean. There’s also a complimentary Nespresso machine near reception, which was a nice touch. I found the price reasonable compared with many older hotels in central Geneva. The service was great from check-in, and I couldn’t have found a better hotel.
