The location was quiet, and just five minutes from the ferry terminal. The proprietor was helpful when I called to say we were running late, and let us check in after 10.00pm. At 51€, though, it didn't feel cheap for a very basic, slightly scruffy room. The bathroom was tiny, but the shower was hot and strong, and the washbasin was in the room. The bed was comfortable, although it had sheets and blankets rather than a duvet, and I had to squeeze past the wardrobe to get into bed. We could hear the neighbours talking late at night because the sound insulation between rooms was poor. The cocktail bar in the name was closed when we arrived, but open at checkout, and looked like a nice cafe.

I was coming from Jersey by ferry and had asked to check in late, around 10-11pm. When I got there, the place was shut and nobody answered the bell, so I was left stranded. They won't refund me, saying I was a no show, even though I'd told them I'd arrive late. I had to book the Budget Ibis down the road in the end. Don't bother with this place.

A good budget option, as others have said, with basic but clean rooms. There's free wifi, and parking is available opposite. We chose a room with a shared shower because it was a little cheaper, but still had our own toilet and sink.

The staff were good, the food was good and basic, and it was good value. I'll come back if we sail from St Malo again. Just bear in mind that the lovely town centre is a 30-40 minute walk, which could be a lot if you're not very fit.
