ibis budget Saint-Omer Centre

A good little budget hotel with small rooms, used a lot by bikers touring through. There’s gated parking, and it’s close to the town centre, with a great choice of bars and restaurants.

I only stayed one night, a couple of days ago. At check-in, the room smelled really damp, so I spoke to the receptionist. She was lovely and helpful, and kindly let me look at other rooms and move. Everything else about that part was good. The next morning at 11:30am, banging on the door woke us. We didn’t answer, but the knocking got louder. We locked the door from inside, yet someone opened it. It was the cleaner. We said checkout was at 12pm, but she insisted it was 11:30am, which was a lie. She left when we stood our ground. We checked out a few minutes after 12. We’d stayed in the room because we needed to feed our baby. A little later, an angry-looking cleaner came out with a bundle of sheets, gave me a look, then went over to a different receptionist, not the woman from the night before, and started talking about us. She thought I didn’t understand because she was speaking French. The cleaner entered our room before checkout, lied about the time, and then openly complained about us to her colleague. I understand wanting to get home early, but checkout is at 12pm, so cleaning should wait until after then. I’m disgusted by how she treated us. Everything else was good, but this has really tarnished my view of the hotel. I’ll be making a formal complaint.

We stopped for one night to meet up with friends during a longer trip. It’s clearly a basic hotel, but everything was fine. The staff were polite and friendly, and the room was acceptable.

The receptionist was really helpful when we arrived that evening. My husband, son and I stayed one night, slept well, and felt the price was fair for what we got.
