The quiet roads and lovely countryside around St. Paul aux Bois made this a great spot, with Laon and Soisson both easy to reach. My wife and I had a really enjoyable three-night stay at Le Prieure. The owners were friendly and accommodating, and our room was roomy and nicely furnished. We could use the breakfast room whenever we wanted to make tea or coffee. There were cats, dogs, horses, and goats around, all friendly and well behaved.

There’s lots of room to sit in the courtyard in the sun or indoors, and the owners are very friendly. The farm has chickens, including a particularly distinctive French breed, as well as cats and rabbits. The rooms are spacious, with chairs and comfortable beds, though they aren’t luxurious. It’s a pleasant historic place to unwind from work worries, but not a very practical base if you’re there for business. Mobile reception can be patchy, the Wi-Fi isn’t fast, and hot water sometimes takes a while.

The hosts were friendly, the rooms were beautiful, and the swimming pool was wonderful.

Breakfast was generous and served at the time we asked for, which worked perfectly after a wedding when we were starting late. We were warmly welcomed by the host in a very pleasant setting. The rustic room was beautiful and very spacious, and the bathroom was well equipped. A special treat was seeing the chickens with their magnificent feathers that take part in competitions. Truly exceptional. Highly recommended.
