The main drawback is the location, about 4 km from the centre of Dax. Still, the room was basic but functional, comfortable, and clean, and I was allowed to keep my bicycle in it, which was reassuring for security. Check-in was easy, and the receptionist was courteous and very helpful. It’s a budget hotel, as reflected in the price of about €50 including breakfast. The continental breakfast was varied and plentiful, and at about €7, good value.

On July 13th I arrived with my family, but there was no baby cot in the room, even though I’d specifically requested one for my 10-month-old during booking. We got there around 11:00 PM, and with no receptionist available to help, I had to book another hotel nearby. The next day, July 14th, at about 3:00 PM, I spoke with a very rude receptionist who showed no empathy. He said I shouldn’t expect much from a budget hotel and denied that we’d asked for a cot. I started doubting myself and checked the reservation again. The request was there. It’s a budget hotel, and in my experience the staff service was budget-level too. I strongly advise everyone to avoid it.

The location is perfect for a one-night stop on the way through. We had two rooms, though one was fine and the other smelled like an ashtray. It’s an Ibis budget, so I wasn’t expecting the Shangri-La.

I paid €50 for one night, and whether that feels like value is really down to your own standards. My room was unbearably hot, even though it was 12c outside and everything was turned off. The place felt utterly soulless, almost like a prison cell, and I’ve been around for a long time. If you have to stay, arrive late and leave early. I wouldn’t come back after a sleepless stay like that, even at the low price. And if you’re hoping to get a beer at the Buffalo Grill down the road, forget it.
