The courtyard at the house is full of color and flowers. We only used the place to leave our car before hiking to the Cascade des Orangers (Orange Tree Waterfall). I'd recommend it, especially for an overnight stay, though it may not be the best spot during the day.

The host made us feel welcome, and the food was excellent. We stayed one night before setting off on our hike along the orange grove canal, and they let us leave our car there while we explored Mafate.

We left our vehicle there for the day while we went hiking, for €5. The 32km walk along the orange grove canal was breathtaking.

Dinner was very good, though breakfast was a little sparse. The dormitory was very comfortable, with clean bathrooms and toilets, and towels were provided. The gîte is at the far end of the Mafate cirque, above the Îlet des Orangers. Getting there means a climb, and you have to keep heading uphill beyond the Îlet. The terrace has a beautiful view.

I left my car overnight, which was convenient and a lot quieter than leaving it by the roadside. The Canalisation des Orangers hike starts from a great location here, and everything went smoothly.
