Campanile Saint Quentin

Breakfast was a generous buffet, with hot and cold dishes. I needed gluten-free food, so we checked before ordering. The man at reception was kind and assured me there would be options. There were crunchy biscotte-style "toasts," another wafer-like cracker, gluten-free Madeleines, and two cereals, one delicious granola and another a bit like Special K with chocolate flakes. There was also yogurt, fresh and dried fruit, nuts, hard-boiled and scrambled eggs, and bacon. For people who aren't gluten-free, there were sausages, ham, croissants, and bread for toasting. A great selection. The room had plenty of hot water for a good shower. It was basic but had what we needed, including a kettle and coffee machine. There were lights and charging sockets on both sides of the bed, plus other sockets and a desk lamp beside the kettle and TV for softer lighting. The bed was fairly comfortable and spare pillows were available. One side of it is very close to the wall, so if two people are sharing, the smaller person should sleep on that side because there's little room to get out. It's a handy location just off the autoroute, close to big stores and a large war graves cemetery. The cemetery is worth visiting to pay respects to the fallen from many countries and faiths, and to reflect on the horrors of war. Lest we forget their sacrifice. We arrived on a Sunday, when the restaurant was closed. It's also shut on Friday and Saturday evenings. There are plenty of nearby places to eat, and Buffalo Grill was a five-minute walk away. The walls are thin and it gets a bit noisy at night, but that was outweighed by the location, the cost, and the very friendly, helpful reception staff.
