La Meffrais 1741

We felt right at home during our three-night stay while travelling through Brittany. Such a lovely place, and the hosts were welcoming and happy to help with any questions.

There are seven rooms in this cosy little hotel, just near the historic city of Dinan. The price is reasonable, parking was easy, and breakfast was great. The decor feels ancient, but the amenities are modern. Our room was nicely furnished, the bed was good, and the blankets were warm. The foyer is cosy too, and there’s a bar. Everyone in our group was happy during our two days there, and the hosts were pleasant. One thing older guests might find difficult is carrying luggage up to the third floor, since there’s no elevator. We managed, though!

We came back for our second visit in two years. Samantha cooked us a superb dinner one evening, and both she and Philippe were attentive hosts who made sure we enjoyed our stay in their lovely historic property.

We only spent one night at La Meffrais 1741 during our two weeks touring Brittany, and I wish we’d had longer. It would make a perfect base for four to five days exploring Dinan, Mont St. Michel, Cancale, and St. Malo. Quality runs through the whole place, from the restored house and its furnishings to the common areas and grounds. The bed and bathroom were well appointed, too. We were lucky to have table d'hote on the night we stayed. Dinner was excellent, with a small selection of good, reasonably priced wines from Samantha. For breakfast we chose the sweet option, pastries, yogurt, juice, and hot drinks, all high quality.
