Hôtel de l'Avenue

Warning: authorities shut the hotel on October 27, two days ago, while we were still staying there. It was closed over safety issues. If you’re considering booking despite this, check that it’s open first. The building is in a terrible state. The walls have odd marks and clumsy patches, there’s a questionable smell, and the corridor carpet is filthy. The website says the parking is secured, but it isn’t, and it flooded so badly that a pump truck had to come dry it out. The roof flooded completely too, and the fire brigade came to inspect the property. It was declared unsafe because there were no fire detectors. Local authorities ordered it closed immediately, and the police came to evacuate the rooms. The manager seemed nice at first, but then appeared to look for excuses not to find us another hotel, saying there was nowhere available or that his payment attempts weren’t working, even with the police there. Eventually he gave us cash, and we booked somewhere else ourselves. He kept us waiting for hours for a solution, until 10 pm, with the kids hungry.

What a shabby experience. The sheets were clean, but the bathroom needs a proper clean, and there were mouldy patches on the shower tiles. The bedroom wallpaper was torn off and covered with a piece of flooring that wasn’t even attached to the wall. I won’t stay here again.

It was really dirty, with hair all over, smelly sheets and pillows, mould on the ceiling, and cups that hadn’t been washed properly. There was either no toilet paper or it was disgusting. The room smelled too, and the bed was too small for two, with an even smaller bed beside it. The toilet was okay, though it could be better. There’s a lot of room for improvement.

The owners greeted us themselves and showed us around, and we had an excellent stay. You couldn’t ask for a better place. Make sure to contact the owner after reserving, just to confirm everything is all set. I’d also strongly suggest calling and paying him directly. His prices are very reasonable that way, without booking.com involved.
