Camping de la croix d'Arles

The kids had plenty to do here, from the jumping castle and playground to playing in the shaded areas, and food and drinks were available throughout the day. We only ended up at Camping de la Croix d'Arles because our car broke down and our mechanic suggested it, but it turned out to be a cozy place to spend the night. We’ll definitely come back. The pitches are spacious, electricity worked well, and the site was cleaned thoroughly every day. We liked cooling off in the pool, even though the water was cold in the hot weather. The toilet area could use some attention, as there were no toilet lids, and the mini-golf course was broken during our stay. It’s handy for a stop while travelling, or for a longer budget stay with beautiful cities within two hours. We enjoyed our time here.

We chose one of the wooded pitches farther from reception, with tall hedges around it. There are also open pitches near reception, as well as cabins. It’s a very wooded campsite, with activity areas among the trees for games, boule and children’s playgrounds. The local area guide is at reception, and the towns and lakes nearby are worth seeing. Bread can be ordered, and you can buy bottles of wine and local beer at reception or in the restaurant. There’s a pool, restaurant and frites stall, though during our mid-September visit the pool and stall were closed. The restaurant was open, but we didn’t try it. The wash block nearest our pitch was closed except for dishwashing, so we had a bit of a walk to reach the toilets and showers. Traffic from the busy nearby road was audible early in the morning, though pitches farther from it should help. When we were there, lots of caravans and motorhomes were stopping on their way home, arriving around 5pm and leaving early the next morning.

The staff made us feel very welcome after a long drive from London, and they were fine with our late arrival at 8:40pm. We even managed to get a late burger and chips. The toilets were clean and the showers warm, and other families were considerate of everyone around them. Langres, an attractive historic town, is nearby. We booked through Pitchup, which was straightforward and well priced, for a one-night stop on our way from London to Provence.
