Hostellerie de la Charrue

Our room was nicely appointed after the hotel's recent renovation, and the room and meal together were very good value. Dinner was excellent too, with very good ingredients and real care taken in the kitchen.

We spent two nights here, and the bathroom had no ventilation, so after a shower the whole room became hot and damp. We tried to sit in the restaurant for coffee while it cooled down, but they refused because dinner prep was underway, even though serving coffee only meant pressing the machine button. The restaurant smelled lovely, but we were so upset with the staff that we didn't try the food and didn't want another problem at dinner. Getting through the garden entrance was a problem both nights. The large gate is locked in the evenings, but nobody gave us the code. On the first night we waited about 15 minutes for someone to answer the call and tell us how to get in. They spoke French even though we had been speaking English. We eventually reached our room. The following night the door's electrical system wasn't working. We explained that we knew the code but the lock still wouldn't open, yet the man kept repeating the code. We ended up shouting that the door wasn't working at 3am. He came over without the keys, apparently thinking we hadn't understood the code, then went back for them and finally opened the door. It took about half an hour for us to get in. I definitely wouldn't recommend this hotel.

They were very welcoming to travelers from abroad. I was extremely pleased with the hospitality, and both the hotel and room had the feel of a small European town.

The hotel was great, and the restaurant was excellent. I'd definitely stay here again.
