Gîte de Sansais

There was water coming into the house, leaking in both the living room and a bedroom. Water even dripped onto the dining room chandelier, where the electrical wiring was faulty. The place clearly hadn’t been cleaned in a long time, with cobwebs everywhere and dust in every room. I called the landlord, Mr. B, but he didn’t seem to care at all, even with rain coming inside.

They charge a €100 cleaning deposit, which I really don’t understand. The property could be good if someone maintained it, but right now the bathrooms are disgusting, the kitchen drain is a mess and leaking, and the bedding is disappointing. Everything needs to be washed or repaired, and there aren’t any cleaning products or supplies. So much for COVID precautions. Hygiene and general cleanliness are seriously lacking.

My stay was booked and paid for October 31 to November 1, 2020. When health restrictions were announced on October 30, I called because the state measures meant I couldn’t travel. He was kind on the phone and said moving the stay would be no problem. I called back that same day to arrange new dates, choosing the same ones so I wouldn’t inconvenience him, but then I was told it couldn’t be done because people had come during the October 31 weekend. He said I would have had to be an OUTLAW to come and accused me of wanting to take advantage of a free weekend. I’d already paid! Apparently the fact that the dates fell on a weekend was a problem for him. Disappointing, dishonest, rude, and I feel robbed.

There was dust and even large spiders, and the hygiene and cleanliness were very disappointing. I definitely wouldn’t recommend this gîte.
