Château de Saulon

We loved the romantic castle atmosphere and the picturesque setting. The breakfast was exquisite, and the staff were exceptional. We even thought about changing our vacation plans so we could stay one more night. Would absolutely recommend it.

The charging issue was especially frustrating. We were traveling with an EV and had emailed ahead to make sure charging would be available. The hotel said it would be, but after a long drive we found both stations occupied. Reception said the cars might be moved after dinner, around 10 p.m. When we checked again, they were still there. I asked the receptionist, Laurène, for her name so I could make a complaint about how unhelpful she had been. She refused to tell me, though she did tell my husband when he asked later. We had booked a standard double room but were put in the “Pavillon,” an annex. It was tiny, old, and dirty, and the walls were so thin we could clearly hear the next room's conversations. The staff were unfriendly, and the hotel felt run-down. The whole stay fell far short of what we expected. Very disappointing, and I wouldn't recommend it.

We had a very good five-course meal at the restaurant and drank the castle's wine. The service was good, and the staff were friendly. It's a beautifully situated castle, and the staff spoke English.

The food was superb, and it's a great place to stay. Prices are on the high side, so ask about the cost upfront to avoid a disappointment when you check out.
