Mercure Bords De Loire Saumur

The hotel has one of the best locations in the Loire region, especially in Saumur, right by the river with a great view of the castle and village. The main drawback is the price. Also, it’s strange that the restaurant doesn’t serve food at sunset when the hotel has one of the best views in town.

The hotel sits by La Loire, with a stunning view of Saumur across the river. Rooms were very good and the staff extremely helpful. Breakfast offered a wide choice, and there’s good car parking at or near the hotel. There isn’t a restaurant on site, but plenty are nearby. I’d happily stay again.

The room was far too small, and the bathroom was extremely tiny. Half the closet was taken up by a safe and two pillows. There wasn’t even a bottle of water or a minibar, just a cheap plastic kettle and a few tiny sachets instead of a coffee machine. It was about 180€ a night, with breakfast extra, which felt unusual for a Mercure or a four-star hotel. It looked more like a budget room and seemed overpriced. When I raised this at reception, they first asked me to pay more for an upgraded room to get a minibar. Then management jumped in and was rude, abusive, and even brutal. They had the nerve to try to make me leave the premises, as if intimidating me because I was alone, and said they’d reimburse the stay. Of course I’d want to get away from that nightmare as soon as possible if they were refunding me. Despicable. You can easily find a nearby hotel that’s better priced and more reasonably priced, with customer comfort and well-being provided generously and with care, a Loire view, and a perfect location.

The free parking let us relax and enjoy the stay, and the restaurant looks fabulous with amazing views. We were welcomed so warmly by the friendly reception team, especially a very caring gentleman. They gave us a well laid out Privileged room with views of the Chateau. A hidden gem here. A bon spectac. Thank you so much, five stars.
