De Paris Hotel

Our trip to Spain on november 2 took a bad turn when our car developed a major mechanical problem. We were towed off the Route du Soleil and needed somewhere to stay in Setes, so we found this hotel and booked two nights. We started calling garages the next morning. A very nice receptionist helped us with the language since my French isn’t very good. When none of the garages had time, she asked her boss for ideas, but he forbade her from helping us any further. We were surprised that staff weren’t allowed to help a guest in trouble. We decided to walk to the local dealer, and they eventually agreed to help. Before we left, we told the receptionist we weren’t sure if we’d be leaving that day or staying another night. She said that was fine, we could leave our luggage in the room and decide when we got back. We returned from the garage at 11:55 AM, told her we’d found help and could leave, and she said we had five minutes to clear the room, after which we’d only be charged for one night. We’d already packed, so we collected our bags and reached reception before noon. While we were upstairs, her boss called and told her to charge a second night to our credit card. There was no discussion. After a terrible journey, high towing and repair costs, we had to pay for a night we didn’t stay. We travel a lot and have never had an experience like this. Hotel de Paris just wants to cash in, in my view. The staff are great, but the boss is a thief. The rooms weren’t in good shape either, with dirty sheets, floors, and showers. I really wouldn’t stay here.
