Huttopia Lac de Sillé

We left after one night of the three we had booked because we didn't feel safe staying there. We had no mobile data at all, despite trying three SIM cards and one eSIM on three different networks. There was also no phone service for calling or texting in an emergency or getting in touch with family. The ground was rough, with no level paths to walk on safely unless we could reach a road, and some of the roads were in poor condition. At night it was very dark. A few parts of the roadway had dim, scattered lighting, but I couldn't safely walk to the shower block, so I couldn't use the facilities. We're an older couple, and the information online hadn't prepared us for any of this. We were given a leaflet about the site and fire procedures, but it was entirely in French. We couldn't read it, and without an internet connection we couldn't translate it. The leaflet itself wasn't the issue; having no way to understand the information was. This is a copy of the message we sent after our stay in July 2025. We explained everything at reception when we left the next morning, and thought the message would be passed on. We wanted to contact you directly rather than simply leave a review. We haven't had a reply, and none of these conditions were mentioned on the website when we booked. We look forward to hearing your observations.

There are procedures for everything here, but too often nothing gets done. The place seems well thought out on paper, yet lacks management and any real focus on clients. Maybe head office figured they could copy and paste a system and the quality would follow. It doesn't. The toilets were worse than at the worst festivals: no paper or soap, water all over the place, and brown floors. There are easy fixes. If dispensers are broken, someone could get spare rolls or a bottle of liquid soap from the nearby village supermarket. A bottle costs €0.80. Toilets where water runs too forcefully could be adjusted or closed. Customers might need reminders in several languages, including Dutch and German, but that was hardly the main problem. There weren't enough activities for the number of kids. Some waited 45 minutes for just two minutes each, or only 10 minutes on a pony, which left people frustrated. Activity leaders and partners could stay longer, or parents could pay extra for special activities like pony rides if the camp can't cover the cost. Half measures aren't much use. The pizzas were paper thin but priced like restaurant meals, and drinks were very expensive. When there was a technical issue, I had to ask three different staff members. Each said they'd sort it out, then forgot. We also couldn't borrow bikes because of a bug in the computer contract. The staff seemed to be doing their best, or close to it. One woman cleaned the toilets as well as she could once or twice a day, and I'm sure the others were trying too. So where's the problem?

The place has a nice forest campsite feel, though I keep tracking half the woods into my tent and car on my feet 🤦🏽‍♀️. The facilities are good, with plenty of hot showers, toilets, and washing-up areas. You're advised to bring your own hand soap and toilet paper. We're having a great time at Huttopia Lac de Sille. The staff speak several languages at the main information tent, where there's also a bar and food shack. You can rent bikes nearby, and there's a shared spot by the bar with board games to borrow and wooden games to play.

Our caravan pitch was huge and in a lovely spot, and the pool was a good size, clean and warm whenever we used it. We spent plenty of time at the great man-made beach and went kayaking on the lake several times. We also took day trips to places like Le Mans. We had a fantastic 12 days at Lac de sille. Everything from check-in to leaving was faultless. The noticeboard had lots of fun activities for kids and grown-ups too, from pony rides and archery to crafts. Fabulous place. 😁
