Best Western Plus Monopole Metropole

We liked being just outside the downtown bustle, while still having an easy walk into the main parts of town. The train station was very easy to reach too. Service was wonderful, and our room turned out to be much bigger than we expected. A great experience for what we paid, and we'd stay here again.

During the busy Christmas market season, the location worked really well for us. We could walk around the whole city, but the hotel was just far enough from the crowds that it felt calmer. Our room was clean and roomier than a typical EU hotel, and the price seemed very reasonable for such a peak tourist period. After checkout, I thought I'd left a personal item behind. I emailed the hotel from our train, and they replied right away. They checked our room and said they hadn't found it. That was service above and beyond.

The carpet was wet across most of the room, and I felt it through my socks as soon as I took off my shoes. It seemed to be coming from the radiator beside the bed. I was already in the room around midnight after a Wednesday train delay, and the window had been left open. The reception staff were initially pleasant, and the room itself was clean, but when I reported the leak they wouldn't come up to inspect it. They said there were no other rooms and offered only free breakfast or a drink at the bar. I managed to get a large blanket after asking, and used it to make a mostly dry path between the bed and bathroom. My bags had been on the floor and got wet too. I gave Best Western Plus Monopole Métropole Strasbourg one star for two reasons. The available room had a leak, and the radiator control valve looked recently replaced and didn't match the paint on the other plumbing, which made me suspect the room may have had this problem before. Also, a free drink or breakfast felt insulting given the wet carpet, socks and bags, and having to walk over a blanket on the floor. For a four-star hotel, I think at least half the room price should have been offered back. It was so late that otherwise I would have asked for a refund and found another hotel.

The receptionists spoke several languages and helped us book things and decide what to do in Strasbourg. They can also give you a 10% voucher for the boat trip. We stayed two nights, and the room was clean with everything we needed. The location was ideal, two minutes from the train station and a short walk from the city centre.
